The drum spider is the part that attaches to the rear of the inner drum, the drum shaft goes thought the outer drum and held in place with bearings allowing it to rotate, the drum pulley attaches to this and is the driven by the belt via the motor.

Over time stress is put on this part and constant use of to much soap powder which eats away at this part they can break. This is a major problem with the appliance if this happens. If you look inside the drum it’s likely to be out of place and can catch on the door seal. It could have made a loud noise prier to this happening.

In order to fix this you need to completely strip the machine down.
