Fan cookers have become more popular than conventional ovens because they distribute heat more evenly and offer faster cooking times. This makes them the standout choice when buying a new cooker. But even with a top-quality fan oven, the element can fail over time.
Finding and fixing an element
It’s no surprise that the elements in your oven need replacing once in a while, since they’re often in constant use.
A sign that your element is faulty is when the air inside the cooker remains cold on the fan oven setting. Or if the fuse trips while you’re cooking, the chances are the element is broken and needs replacing.
You’ll usually find the element in a fan assisted oven behind the main cavity. With most freestanding or built-in models, you can access it by removing the oven’s internal rear panel.
Just remember that all cookers are different, so always check the instruction manual first. And be sure to double-check the power supply is turned off before you attempt to replace the element.
